L’une des valeurs fondamentales de Nesta est de ne jamais travailler seule. Depuis notre entr\u00e9e dans le domaine de la DSI, nous avons collabor\u00e9 avec plusieurs organisations. Actuellement, nous travaillons avec six organisations<\/strong> : Waag<\/strong> <\/a>(Pays-Bas), WeMake<\/strong> <\/a>(Italie), betterplace lab<\/strong><\/a> (Allemagne), Barcelona Activa<\/strong><\/a> et Fab Lab Barcelona<\/strong><\/a> (Espagne), et ePa\u0144stwo Foundation<\/strong><\/a> (Pologne). Nous mettons en commun nos comp\u00e9tences, r\u00e9seaux et connaissances pour maximiser notre impact.<\/p>\n

Notre travail dans la DSI a \u00e9t\u00e9 possible gr\u00e2ce au financement g\u00e9n\u00e9reux de la Commission Europ\u00e9enne<\/a><\/strong>, en particulier de la DG-CONNECT<\/strong><\/a>. La Commission a \u00e9t\u00e9 l’une des premi\u00e8res grandes institutions \u00e0 reconna\u00eetre le potentiel de la technologie pour r\u00e9soudre des d\u00e9fis sociaux et a financ\u00e9 plus de 50 projets dans le programme Horizon 2020<\/strong>, notamment dans le programme CAPS<\/strong> <\/a>(Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability).<\/p>\n

Notre r\u00f4le est d’aider \u00e0 d\u00e9finir une agenda commune pour la ISN en Europe<\/strong>, d’influencer les politiques et de cr\u00e9er de nouvelles connexions pour acc\u00e9l\u00e9rer la croissance et maximiser l’impact.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_column _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” type=”4_4″][et_pb_heading title=”Quels sont les principaux r\u00e9sultats du projet DSI4EU ? Le c\u0153ur du projet est le site digitalsocial.eu<\/strong>, qui est une ressource pr\u00e9cieuse pour tous les types de parties prenantes. Actuellement, nous investissons massivement dans son d\u00e9veloppement pour le rendre encore plus utile, notamment en augmentant la biblioth\u00e8que des \u00e9tudes de cas<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dans le cadre de notre projet actuel, nous sommes ravis de renforcer notre engagement politique, avec le d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019un DSI Index<\/strong><\/a> qui mesurera comment diff\u00e9rents pays et villes soutiennent la DSI et offrira un r\u00e9servoir d’id\u00e9es pour les d\u00e9cideurs politiques. Nous d\u00e9veloppons \u00e9galement six \u201cDSI clusters<\/a>\u201d<\/strong>, des programmes d’activit\u00e9s concentr\u00e9es sur des domaines sociaux sp\u00e9cifiques, qui aident les praticiens \u00e0 maximiser leur impact. Cet engagement est crucial car il va droit au c\u0153ur de ce que la DSI cherche \u00e0 accomplir. Ces derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, l\u2019innovation sociale a attir\u00e9 de plus en plus d’attention, mais relativement peu a \u00e9t\u00e9 consacr\u00e9 \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont la technologie peut \u00eatre utilis\u00e9e comme un outil. Beaucoup d’acteurs dans le secteur social, y compris les associations, manquent de comp\u00e9tences num\u00e9riques et peinent \u00e0 exploiter les opportunit\u00e9s. Dans le m\u00eame temps, des sommes colossales ont \u00e9t\u00e9 investies dans la recherche et l\u2019innovation pour des technologies num\u00e9riques, mais une fraction infime a \u00e9t\u00e9 allou\u00e9e \u00e0 l’innovation num\u00e9rique orient\u00e9e vers le social.<\/p>\n

Le secteur social doit prendre en compte cette dynamique pour influencer le d\u00e9veloppement de la technologie de mani\u00e8re responsable, \u00e9thique et inclusive. In addition, Matt has become a collaborator on our European Study<\/a> as a part of the expert committee as well as an interviewee, with the first results to be presented in November 2018.<\/strong> Can you present DSI4EU and Nesta?<\/em><\/span> Nesta<\/a> is a global innovation foundation with a mission to back new ideas to tackle the big challenges of our time. Using our knowledge, networks, funding and skills, we work hard for new opportunities and challenges, to spark creative answers, to shape ideas into practical solutions and to shift systems in a new direction. We have been working in the field of digital social innovation<\/a> (DSI) since 2013, exploring and supporting the people, projects and organisations across Europe who are using open and collaborative technologies to tackle social challenges. We\u2019ve published landmark reports including Growing a digital social innovation ecosystem for Europe<\/a><\/em> and What next for digital social innovation<\/a><\/em>?, and developed an online hub for the community at digitalsocial.eu<\/a>, where people can find information, stories, case studies, funding opportunities, events and Europe\u2019s largest database of DSI organisations<\/a> and projects<\/a>. This program is supported by the European Commission and works within a network of actors. Can you explain the partnerships?<\/em><\/span> One of Nesta\u2019s core values is to never work alone, and since entering the field of DSI we\u2019ve collaborated with several organisations. Currently, we\u2019re working with six organisations - Waag<\/a> (Netherlands), WeMake<\/a> (Italy), betterplace lab<\/a> (Germany), Barcelona Activa<\/a> and Fab Lab Barcelona<\/a> (Spain) and the ePa\u0144stwo Foundation<\/a> (Poland). We bring together our complementary skills, networks and knowledge to maximise impact. Since the very beginning, our work in DSI has been made possible thanks to the generous funding of the European Commission<\/a>, specifically the Directorate\u2011General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG-CONNECT<\/a>). The Commission was one of the first big organisations to recognise the potential of technology for tackling social challenges and has funded over 50 projects within Horizon 2020\u2019s CAPS<\/a> (Collective Awareness Platforms for Sustainability) programme. We believe that one of our key roles is to help shape a shared agenda for DSI in Europe, to influence policy and to build new connections to speed up growth and maximise impact. What have been the key achievements and results of DSI4EU? What are the prospects for the coming months?<\/em><\/span> The heart of the project is the digitalsocial.eu<\/a> website, which is a valuable resource for all types of stakeholders. At the moment, we\u2019re investing heavily in further development to make it even more useful, including growing the library of case studies<\/a>. In our current project, we\u2019re really excited to be increasing our policy engagement, through the development of a DSI Index<\/a> which will measure how different countries and cities are supporting DSI and create a bank of ideas for policymakers. We\u2019re also developing six \u201cDSI clusters<\/a>\u201d, programmes of activity focused on specific social areas, which are helping practitioners on the ground maximise their impact. On the research side, we\u2019re kicking off some exciting future-focused work, looking at how emerging tech trends will affect the development of DSI and building positive future scenarios for how technology can help us to address social challenges a decade down the line.

\u201cA lot of the social sector, including charities in\u00a0<\/strong>particular, lack digital skills and don\u2019t know how to make the most of the opportunities. At the same time, huge amounts of money have gone into research and innovation for digital products, but a tiny fraction has been devoted to socially-oriented digital innovation.\u201d<\/strong><\/h2><\/blockquote>In relation to your work, why is the pledge of the Social Good Accelerator for \"More tech in social good, more social good in tech\" important in Europe? Why is this commitment relevant, in your opinion?<\/em><\/span> This pledge is important because it goes to the heart of what DSI aims to achieve. Over the past few years, social innovation has attracted more and more attention, but relatively little has been devoted to how technology can be used as a tool. A lot of actors in the social sector, including charities, lack digital skills and are struggling to make the most of the opportunities. At the same time, huge amounts of money have gone into research and innovation for digital technologies, but a tiny fraction has been devoted to socially-oriented digital innovation. Alongside this, over the past years pressing issues have come to the forefront of the very foundations of technology: concentration of power and money in the hands of a small number of tech giants, threats to net neutrality (particularly in the US), censorship, surveillance, big data and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and the nebulous spectre of \u201cfake news.\u201d We think DSI also has a role in influencing the development of technology in a more responsible, ethical and inclusive direction. What could we do together to accelerate digital social innovation?<\/em><\/span> There are loads of opportunities for collaboration, from events and research contributions to joint efforts in influencing policy and network-building. We believe that one of the reasons DSI hasn\u2019t reached its full potential is that there isn\u2019t always a shared agenda and a sense of community. Indeed, we still can\u2019t decide what to call the field - social tech, digital social innovation, tech for good, civic tech, good tech\u2026 the list goes on. By building a movement together we\u2019re more likely to be able to grow the impact of DSI, and so we\u2019re always keen to work with organisations across and beyond Europe.
